Five Podcasts To Help Us Step Into Our Creativity

When I first became a youth pastor, I felt like what Shonda Rhimes calls the F.O.D.—the “First Only Different.” I was the only female minister in our department. When I went to our network meetings with other youth pastors in the area, again, I was the only woman. And often, the only single person in the meeting.  Don’t get me wrong, I met and worked with some great guys at those meetings. But, spending two hours of each month listening to men talk about balancing fatherhood with ministry—didn’t exactly help twenty-three-year-old me navigate being a woman in the field.  I [...]

Just What You (May) Need to Hear

It is the second to last day of January. How did that happen? I don’t know about you, but 2020 has already thrown me a few surprises. Some good, some really hard, and more than a few I am not ready for—yet here we are. And as much as my planner self hates to admit, there are only a few things we actually have control over in life.  We can fill out our Start Here: Dream Planners, and come up with brilliant strategies for how we want to approach 2020. But that doesn’t mean everything is going to go to [...]

Things I Loved in 2019

What will you remember most about 2019? I’m not talking about the serious, life altering stuff—though those things are obviously important. Rather, I am talking about the songs that years from now, will bring you back to your 2019 life. The TV shows you’ll binge when you are home sick one day, that will transport you back to when you saw them for the first time. The ones that will make you remember who you were with or weirdly, what you were eating when you watched them. More importantly, of all of those things, What did you love this year? [...]

My Favorite Thanksgiving Links

As I have shared before, hands down, fall is my favorite season. Give me the chunky sweaters, all the flannel, the apple picking, and the pumpkin flavored (almost) anything—I am here for it. And though many people may think Halloween is the best fall holiday, Thanksgiving is my favorite.  Of course, it helps that I am not a costume person, and Thanksgiving involves baking (my happy place). But this Holiday that finds itself wedged in between Halloween and Christmas, offers many of us an extra long weekend, time with family or friends, and really good food. Also, for my family’s [...]

Love Learn Lead October 10, 2019

When I was a kid, I was homeschooled until sixth grade. This meant, that while my classmates had figured out the social structure of public school all the way back in Kindergarten, I was just beginning. Seeking to survive middle school, I couldn’t help but compare myself to the “cool kids,” to those who my teacher had deemed the “smart kids,” and who socially, had been designated to their own lonely corner of the lunch table.  Looking back, I don’t know that I ever fully found my place. Only, even at the age of twelve, comparison led me to judge [...]

5 Things I Loved in March

March is coming to a close, and I have been looking forward to the end of this month for weeks. One obvious reason is spring is here, and hopefully, the weather will start to act accordingly. But mostly, I’ve been looking forward to getting away.  This weekend, Tony and I are headed to the Finger Lakes in New York with our best friends. We’re going to eat good food, take a hike (weather permitting), and visit some of our favorite wineries. And of course, the best part will be, being all together. Friendship is such a gift.  Doing life together [...]

Love: Great Podcasts to Start the New Year

Do you ever feel like there isn’t enough time in the day to read all the books you want to read? Or to learn all the things you want to learn? I feel that way more times than I can count. That is why I love podcasts. Podcasts can give you twenty to sixty minutes of good information right in your ears as you drive to the grocery store, fold laundry, or workout in the gym. Sometimes, the people being interviewed are the authors of the books we want to read. And we can learn some great stuff even if [...]

Things I Loved 2018

When you think back on 2018, what will you remember?  What life events will come to mind? What world events? Or, perhaps more fun, what show will you remember binging? What songs will bring you right back to where you were in life, this past year? Today, I want to share with you my list of things I loved in 2018. They are shows or some form of media. They are things that bring me small joys. And others are memories I hope to always hold close. I hope this list helps you get to know me a little better, [...]

Love: Resources to Help Clarify Your Calling

At the end of August, Tony and I took a small prop plane for a seven minute ride over the ocean to the island of Inis Mor, just off the coast of Ireland. Online, I had read about its ancient ruins and the beautiful, jagged cliffs that line its shores. I wanted to stand on the edge of those cliffs and take in the view.  Only for a visitor, to get to that side of the island meant taking a tour bus or renting a bike. As we’re not tour bus people—biking it was. That morning, we stood outside the [...]

Love Learn Lead August 23, 2018

Happy Thursday, friends! August is flying by, and it has already been two weeks since introducing my new Coaching Business to the world. On Monday, we celebrated my 200th post on the blog, by talking about the importance of routine in reaching our goals and making our dreams reality.  Today, for our Love, Learn, Lead post, I am sharing a podcast episode I loved, to help inspire you to be courageous. I am talking about something important I’ve learned about habits and routines. And finally, I am leaving you with a leadership quote that I find challenging, but so worth [...]
