Happy Thursday, friends! August is flying by, and it has already been two weeks since introducing my new Coaching Business to the world. On Monday, we celebrated my 200th post on the blog, by talking about the importance of routine in reaching our goals and making our dreams reality. 

Today, for our Love, Learn, Lead post, I am sharing a podcast episode I loved, to help inspire you to be courageous. I am talking about something important I’ve learned about habits and routines. And finally, I am leaving you with a leadership quote that I find challenging, but so worth thinking about.

As I have shared before, I love podcasts. But, I subscribe to enough of them that I rarely listen to an episode more than once. There’s just not enough time. So, if I recommend a podcast episode—and tell you I listened to it more than once—know, it’s a really good one. My most recent example?

Jessica Honneger’s Going Scared Podcast, Episode 23

In this episode she interviews the founder of International Justice Mission (IJM), Gary Haugen. IJM takes on injustices (slavery, sex trafficking, legal troubles, etc.) done to the poor all over the world, and by doing so is changing entire countries. In this conversation between Jessica and Gary, they share how they have found courage to take bold steps in the face of huge risk and fear. For any of us who dream of doing something big, or who want to make an impact on this world but feel overwhelmed by the need, this is so inspiring. (click here for iTunes)

What has inspired you recently, to be courageous?

When we first learned how to drive, there were a few things we were taught to do to make our car run at its best. Things, that we probably think are no brainers. For example, we all know that we need to make sure there is enough gas in the tank to get us where we want to go. And, we should know that every now and then, we need to get our oil changed. Barring age, natural wear and tear, or an accident—if we keep these two things up, our car should get us where we want to go, no problem. 

But, what we often don’t realize is that similar rules apply to you and me. Though they often look different from person to person, there are things we all need to do to keep our bodies, minds, and souls operating at our best. These are what experts call our Keystone Habits. Habits or routines that if done regularly, enable us to be our best selves. 

Interestingly, these keystone habits, are ones we often laugh at in our teens and early twenties—as our young bodies make us feel like the energizer bunny. Only, as we join the workforce and begin to get older, our energy and mental well-being begins to lag. This is because, we are still neglecting these key habits that we need to make a part of our lives. 

Over the years, I have learned how to sleep, eat, exercise, and feed my soul in such a way that most days, I am able to offer my best self to those around me. Not only that, but these habits have enabled me to integrate other habits, such as writing, that are crucial to my goals and dreams. If you are in a place where you feel your daily energy is lagging.
