What will you remember most about 2019?

I’m not talking about the serious, life altering stuff—though those things are obviously important. Rather, I am talking about the songs that years from now, will bring you back to your 2019 life. The TV shows you’ll binge when you are home sick one day, that will transport you back to when you saw them for the first time. The ones that will make you remember who you were with or weirdly, what you were eating when you watched them. More importantly, of all of those things,

What did you love this year?

Every now and then, I’ll turn on the TV and come across some one-off show entitled something like “The Best of 1990.” Then for the next twenty or so minutes I will get sucked into stories of how Vanilla Ice’s “Ice Ice Baby” became immortalized, or how Home Alone grossed $285.7 million domestically. But of course, it won’t be the facts that mesmerize me as much as all the childhood memories that these things bring up.

So I guess, what I am really asking you today, is what cultural things have attached themselves to your memories of this past year?

For today’s post, I am sharing some of mine. Enjoy, and let me know a few of yours if you have time!

TV:

This Is Us: I am still loving this show, though it tends to make me cry.

Grey’s Anatomy: I’ve been watching this show since the beginning—even through seasons that drove me a little crazy. But this season, so far, I am loving.

Home Town: Anyone missing Chip and Jo? You need to check this home renovation show out, it is great.

Reruns of The Great British Bake Off & The Office: Our cable plan changed, giving us more stations and enabling us to catch up and relive some of these great television moments.

Movies:

The Farewell: Had to track this one down and ended up watching it in a cool Indie movie theater. It is sad, it is hopeful, and it is a powerful story of an American born Chinese woman grappling with her grandmother’s cancer diagnosis and the way her Eastern family chooses to handle it.

Downton Abbey: If you’re a Downton fan and you haven’t seen it yet—it is all of the good things about this beloved show and more!

Books: See this post for my favorites!

Podcasts:

Made For This: IF Gathering founder, Jennie Allen, has started a podcast in which she tackles some of the hardest life issues facing us today—anxiety, loneliness, conflict, etc. And, she brings some phenomenal voices on the show to talk about how to navigate these challenges in our everyday lives.

The Office Ladies : Each episode, Jenna Fischer (Pam) and Angela Kinsey (Angela) from the TV show, The Office, go though an episode from the show and share behind the scenes information. It is funny and fantastic.

Music:

Johnnyswim: Their album Moonlight was one of my favorites this year. I love their songs Say What You Will and Bridges especially.

Drew Holcomb: His song “Family” makes me smile—and dance—every time I hear it.

Recipes:

Healthy Zuppa Toscana: This soup by 40 Aprons is perfect for a cold winter night. It is Whole 30 friendly and dairy free.

Paleo Pumpkin Bread: I love this recipe by Downshiftology. The only thing I change about this recipe, is I add a lot more cinnamon, ginger, and cloves. So spice it up to your preferred taste!
