Love: Podcasts to Help Start 2018 Strong

One of my favorite things to do when I am doing the dishes, cleaning, or even running, is listening to podcasts. Over the past few years, they have opened up a whole other world of possibility to me. Through listening to people’s stories of success and even failures, I have been able to change my mindset regarding the future. And I have learned some incredible things from  some pretty smart people. For this reason, today, I want to share with you a few of my favorite episodes from different podcasts—all shows that I think may help you as you think [...]

Got to Start Somewhere

“Never compare your beginning to someone else's middle. Comparison is poison.” —Jon Acuff, Start Every now and then, I wonder what success was like before the internet. As it began to really take off as I was getting out of school, and starting my first career, its hard for me to remember a  time when famous people weren’t just on TV or in magazines. It’s hard to remember when success didn’t look like going viral or blowing up our social media feeds. The internet has culturally changed our definition of success. But it has also muddled our view of what [...]

Learn: How I’m approaching change in 2018

On Monday, I shared that there are some years when making a strict New Year’s Resolution (NYR), just doesn’t work. When making a drastic change isn’t possible or perhaps, helpful. And when killing ourselves at the gym in January, isn’t the answer. For me, this year, is one of those times. If I am honest, part of the reason for this is because after the holidays, I didn’t have the mental energy to think up the best NYR for me. But also, I have a few dreams for 2018 that make it hard to set one “all in” goal, to [...]

New Year, New You–Or, Keep Fighting the Good Fight

Every year around this time, the story is always the same. “New Year, New You.” All of a sudden gym parking lots are full. We buy vegetables in bulk, and sigh at the numbers on our scales. We try to figure out how much kale we can hide in a smoothie, and feel the pressure to be different. And some years, this is good. There are January’s where we need to do something drastic to help get us back on course. To give us perspective. Or, to make a real change. But then there are January’s where striving to achieve [...]

Lead: How to Make 2018 Awesome

Early in the morning, on New Year’s Day, Tony and I woke to the sound of the alarm going off on my phone. Through squinting eyes, I looked at its screen, so badly wanting to hit snooze. Only I couldn’t; we had a flight to catch. I clicked, “Stop,” then laid in bed staring at the ceiling. “It’s 2018,” I thought. A minute later, I rolled over and nudged Tony to make sure he was awake. Then we got up to face our long day of travel home. We braved the negative six degree weather, and made our way to [...]

Easier Said, Than Done

“Just give it a try.” “Put yourself out there.” “You know what you should do…” We’ve all been there. When we’re the ones that need something to change. When we’re on the side of a conversation where we’re getting the advice, and those on the other side are saying things we don’t want to hear. Not because what they have to say is wrong, but because it’s hard. They keep talking until we finally say: “It’s easier said, than done.” And like that—unless our friends or family are relentless—the conversation is over. We start talking about the football game or [...]

Love Learn Lead January 4, 2018

Ok, I admit it. I did it. When writing the date for today’s post, I typed 2017. It is going to take a few times of writing dates down to solidify in my mind that it is indeed 2018. But here we are, having entered another year. This past Monday, Tony and I left the frozen tundra that is Wisconsin, where we were visiting family, and are now back at home in Pennsylvania. Though where we live has yet to fully feel like home, we are eternally grateful the winters here are a little milder than where we grew up. [...]

Learn: What 2017 Taught Me

Since I was a teenager writing in my well-worn journals, I’ve always felt it’s important to look at what has been, before we move on to what’s ahead. I feel this is especially true in the New Year. In the past, on many December 31st’s, I have literally made lists of all the big things that have happened in the year. I have taken the time to be grateful, grieve, and most importantly, think about what I’ve learned in hopes of being better in the New Year. In this spirit, before truly beginning 2018, today I am sharing things I [...]

Things I Loved 2017

Every now and then, we hear stories about communities digging up old time capsules from fifty or even hundreds of years before. And I am always interested in learning what they’ve found. Like a couple of years ago, they dug up a time capsule in Boston that was buried in 1795 by Paul Revere and Sam Adams. Inside they found coins, a few newspapers and a Massachusetts commonwealth seal. This was what they wanted the people of the future to know about them. This was how they told us what was important in 1795. These stories always make me wonder [...]

Merry Christmas

"One of the most glorious messes in the world is the mess created in the living room on Christmas Day. Don't clean it up too quickly." -Andy Rooney There is this part of me that is always ready to move on to the next thing. At the end of a Christmas party, I am already planning when I am going to wrap those gifts or bake that dish for the next event. I am always planning, always thinking about what is to come. And in many aspects of life, this strategic part of me works on my behalf. But not [...]
