As I have shared before, hands down, fall is my favorite season. Give me the chunky sweaters, all the flannel, the apple picking, and the pumpkin flavored (almost) anything—I am here for it. And though many people may think Halloween is the best fall holiday, Thanksgiving is my favorite.
Of course, it helps that I am not a costume person, and Thanksgiving involves baking (my happy place). But this Holiday that finds itself wedged in between Halloween and Christmas, offers many of us an extra long weekend, time with family or friends, and really good food. Also, for my family’s celebration, somehow we were able to snag pie duty, and it is something I look forward to every year.
Many of us are landing on Thanksgiving’s doorstep this year feeling a little unprepared.
At the same time though, many of us are landing on Thanksgiving’s doorstep this year feeling a little unprepared. Our fall has been too busy to think about or plan for this coming week. So, with this in mind, today I am sharing the links to some of my favorite Thanksgiving things in hopes of helping you get your head in the game.
First, I’m passing along some recipes—all gluten free in case you have someone with an allergy or you’re trying to limit the carbs. I am also sharing a few great podcasts for you to listen to if you’re spending time alone working in the kitchen, or making a long drive to see family. And finally, if football or shopping is not your thing, and you find yourself with some down time, I share a few fun, food-related cozy reads.
Wishing you and your loved ones a blessed Holiday. Enjoy!
Food:
All the ratio’s on this are perfect—except the spices. I bump up the flavor with two teaspoons cinnamon, a half of a teaspoon ginger (or to taste), and a quarter teaspoon ground cloves.
This is Martha Stewart’s recipe, so you can’t go wrong. Great to make for pumpkin pie.
Delicious on it’s own, or great for making corn bread stuffing!
Sherried Green Beans & Mushrooms
This recipe dresses up green beans in a way that will make you want seconds.
Podcasts:
Jen Hatmaker’s For the Love Podcast:
Dishing With The Pioneer Woman: Ree Drummond
Wise Men (and Women) Bring Gifts Of Boundaries At The Holidays With Dr. Henry Cloud & John Townsend
Both of these episodes from the For The Love Podcast, are so on point for the holidays. One will make you want to cook, the other will help you feel more prepared for loving your family well this holiday season.
Jenna Fischer and Angela Kinsey from the show, The Office, take us behind the scenes for a fun look at creating the show.
Books:
by Shauna Niequist
Such a great book to read as you head into the busyness of Christmas. Shauna helps remind us what is most important when sharing a meal or special occasion with our loved ones—while being real about the challenges too.
by Ruth Reichl
The perfect fall read—and the way this woman rights about food! So good!
