March is coming to a close, and I have been looking forward to the end of this month for weeks. One obvious reason is spring is here, and hopefully, the weather will start to act accordingly. But mostly, I’ve been looking forward to getting away.
This weekend, Tony and I are headed to the Finger Lakes in New York with our best friends. We’re going to eat good food, take a hike (weather permitting), and visit some of our favorite wineries. And of course, the best part will be, being all together.
Friendship is such a gift.
Doing life together through all the ups and downs is so much better than doing it alone. Also, taking a break from life, and going away for a weekend together, is not so bad either. But another thing I love about friendship, is being able to share great things with each other. And with these friends of ours, we have.
Over the years, we’ve shared podcasts, books, TV shows, and so much more. They are how we found out about Downton Abbey. We’re the ones who took them to the Finger Lakes (this is our fourth trip there together). And for my birthday last year, they gave me a YETI travel mug for my coffee. Not only did I need a mug, but I wouldn’t have thought to get a YETI one because I associate the brand with camping. This mug is fantastic!
Good friends share good things with each other. And because I want to be a good friend to you, I want to share the good things I come across more often. That is why every Wednesday, I am now sharing a Five Things post on Instagram. Five podcasts, movies, books, or even helpful life hacks that I am loving. Things, I hope will bring you joy, help you grow, or even entertain.
Today I want to share with you my Favorite Five of March*, to give you a taste of these posts. And if you have time, in the comments, I’d love to know one thing you’re loving this month!
Reading Instead of Scrolling Social
I used to scroll social media every morning, as soon as I woke up. But this past month, I tried something different. Instead, during the down time after I wake up, I’ve started reading. Even if I only get through a few pages, I feel like a better, happier person. My mind is clearer and more focused as I start my day.
The Rise Podcast Interviews
Two of my favorite podcast episodes this month are two interviews Rachel Hollis did on her Rise Podcast —in February (I was a little behind). The first one was episode 83, where she interviews Joe Biden. Whatever your political views are, they have a powerful discussion on grief that is a great listen. The second was her interview with leadership guru, John Maxwell, in episode 82. In this interview, he shares some great words of wisdom for all of us—whether we realize we are a leader or not.
We Were The Lucky Ones
My favorite fiction read this month was We Were The Lucky Ones. Based on a true story about a family who barely escaped the Holocaust, it is an incredible story of survival, resilience, and hope. It’s heavy, will have you on the edge of your seat, but worth the read.
Free Solo
The most interesting movie I watched this month was Free Solo. It is the documentary about Alex Honnold’s free solo climb of El Capitan’s 900 meter vertical rock face in Yosemite. A free solo climb means, he did it without any ropes or harnesses. But the part that struck me the most was his preparation and perseverance. If you have a big goal, this is worth the watch.
Victoria
An incredible portrayal of the life of this young queen, Victoria on PBS is a show worth watching. From January to earlier this month, the third season aired, and in my opinion—it keeps getting better. Few TV shows depict the challenges of leadership the way this one does. And even fewer cast the women in the lead role. Not only this, but the characters, settings, and situations are phenomenal.
What things did you love this month?
Did any of them change the way you look at the world? If so, how?
