It seems almost unfair that the grey skies of winter often give way to the rainy days of spring, before the sun finally warms our days more consistently. Conversely, last week, I saw a friend who lives in the desert out west. She told me that other than a few weeks a year, every day is sunny where she lives. And I wondered, would I miss the rain, if I lived in the desert?

Important things happen in the rainy, in between months. Here in the Northeast, it is when the first plants of the season begin to take root. Though little growth is shown above ground, much is happening below. It seems to be nature’s way of mirroring back to us what is happening in our own lives, when it feels as if very little is.

For this reason, in April, each week we will be talking about an important aspect of persevering in the between times of our lives. In the seasons where it often seems nothing is happening, our greatest preparation occurs. Only sometimes, we don’t know where to focus, or what to do. It is my hope that the posts this month will help with this.

Today, I share a new podcast I am loving, something I have learned about the in between times, and a quote about growth. Because as leaders, we always need to be growing. Enjoy!

One of my favorite places to get beautiful jewelry is Noonday. It is a company that employs women all over the world and the US. But as powerful as its business model is, the story of its founder, Jessica Honneger, is equally impactful. Recently, Honneger started a podcast for people who, like she did, have big dreams yet feel scared to go after them. It is appropriately called The Going Scared podcast. If you have a big, scary dream this show is for you. Check out the episode Being Kind Over Being Right with Bob Goff. I promise you will be inspired!

Every in between season—whether we are waiting for a new job, a ring, etc.—has something that busy seasons don’t. Time. Perhaps it is God’s way of making space in our lives for our next thing, but it seems that when we are waiting there alway seems to be extra time. One thing I have learned in my in between seasons is to pay attention to this time and to make the most of it. Sometimes it has looked like taking up a new hobby, other times it has meant reading more books. Whatever the case, I have found that the best response it to live it to the fullest.

Are you in an in between time? Are you waiting for something?

How can you make the most of this season?
