Down Below, part 2

See Part 1 of Down Below. Jesus couldn’t care less. When the God of the Universe humbled himself by becoming human, he didn’t even try to cling to a place of position. Jesus could have been born in a castle, He was born in a manger. With all of His teaching and healing abilities, He could have easily started a revolution and become a powerful earthly king. Instead, when people tried to make Him their king, Jesus went into hiding. When He was convicted of blasphemy, He could have silenced His accusers; rather it was Him who remained quiet. Him, [...]

Love Learn Lead October 27, 2016

How did we reach the end of October so quickly?! This year is flying by, and I think the only consolation is that it means that election season will soon come to a close. I hope wherever you are you are enjoying the changing leaves, fall flavored lattes, and all that this season has to offer. Here is this week’s Love, Learn, Lead. Enjoy! Love I am lovingPaleo Ginger Snap cookies! A couple of weekends ago, our friends invited us over for dinner and I offered to bring desert. It being fall, I made one of my husband’s favorites: Soft [...]

Down Below, part 1

Being married to a photographer, I have been blessed with seeing many sunrises and sunsets. They are the two best times of day to take photo’s in nature because of the colors they cast on the sky and on the world. So, during our photo trips, we (many times, just Tony) get up when everything is still dark, drive to a spot, and wait for the sun to bring beauty out of the shadows. Or, we end our sight-seeing early in the afternoon, drive to a bright place, and wait for the sun to recede. Once, while we were doing [...]

Learning to Love…the Season You’re In

“I think that wherever we are we can turn that place into a sacred space where we could do the good work God has called us to do. And then, as we are faithful with what is in our hand, I think God then gives us what is in our heart.” -Christine Caine Thursday is here again. Another day to talk about Loving, Learning, and Leading. One thing I think we can always learn more about, is love. Whether you know someone with a difficult personality, a person close to you is in crisis, or you’re realizing the importance of [...]

Play With Fire: Book Review

“Where is God?” “Does He care?” “Does He even see me?” In all of our lives, sooner or later, we begin to smell smoke. Illness, broken relationships, imploded dreams, or disappointments in our careers threaten to burn our lives down. Sometimes, they do. We find ourselves at ground zero, with life going exactly the opposite from what we expected, and we wonder: “Is God even paying attention?” In her new book, Play With Fire, Bianca Olthoff takes us through her own journey of questioning God’s presence, His goodness, and His plan for her life in the midst of the fire. With [...]

Seeking Hope

As a little girl, I was convinced that being older was way better than being young. On my fourth birthday, I remember telling my mom I wanted to skip four and be five. Five had to be better than four. I carried this sentiment with me all the way into adolescence. But it wasn’t just about wanting to do what the big kids did; I also believed something faulty about growing up. I thought being a grown up was easier. Whether it was the movies I watched, or not really paying attention to the adult world around me, I somehow [...]

Love Learn Lead October 13, 2016

Hello All! One more day to the weekend. In hopes of giving you a break in the middle of your Thursday, today I am sharing a TV show that I am loving, a podcast I found transformational, and quote that is both haunting and challenging when it comes to life and leadership. Enjoy, and have a blessed day! Love I have to be honest, I didn’t have high hopes for this season’s TV lineup. There have been so many new shows over the past few years that were terrible, and good shows that got cancelled (ahem, Parenthood). But, NBC’s This [...]

New Glasses

Recently, I got new glasses—big black frames that hopefully make me look more trendy than nerdy. My old pair were smaller, more rectangular, and more in style when I got them five years ago. For all that time, they seemed to work just fine, so I kept putting off seeing the eye doctor. But, a few months ago, my husband reminded me that a new pair would (mostly) be covered by our insurance and that it may be good to have a spare pair for our vacation this summer. I made an appointment. Two weeks after seeing my eye doctor [...]

Love Learn Lead October 6, 2016

Happy Thursday! Two things I am really passionate about are learning and leadership. As we approach the weekend, I thought I would share some things about loving, learning, and leading. Enjoy, and have a wonderful day! Love I am loving that the weather is getting cooler and Fall is on it’s way. Though it means Winter is coming, Fall is my most favorite season of the year. It means cool mornings and crisp evenings. It means sharing conversations over steaming cups of coffee or hot apple cider. And it means pumpkin and apple filled baked goods--which I can never get enough [...]

Everyday Bravery

“Courage starts with showing up and letting ourselves be seen.”  ― Brené Brown, Daring Greatly Whenever I think of the words brave or bravery, the word warrior comes to mind: Mel Gibson with a blue face, Russell Crowe as the Gladiator, or even Mother Theresa with her blue edged head covering. I always associate bravery with big people doing big things—for God, others, or themselves. I very rarely hear the word brave and think of the small things. Yet, I am beginning to learn that the small things may provide the greatest opportunities for courage. Getting up in the morning, [...]
