Love Learn Lead January 5, 2017

Do you ever have trouble writing the date after the New Year? You get the month and the day right, and then start to write the previous year down? Yeah, me neither (actually I will be writing 2016 in my journal until February!). But no matter what date I write down on the page, 2017 is here, and it is brand new. There are no scratches or regrets on it yet. Though some of us may already have appointments and events on the calendar through May or June—the truth is, nothing is written in stone. All of it, or none [...]

7 Ways to Keep Your NYR!

Happy New Year! This is usually the post where most bloggers tell their readers about their New Year’s Resolutions (NYRs), but if I am honest, I have never made one. Sure, I have told myself many Decembers that in January—I am going to eat better. But the only thing that improved my eating from the former month to the latter, was that there were no Christmas parties in January. I have, however, made quite a few changes to my life over the years—from changing how I eat (including giving up sugar and gluten), to exercising, to taking up more than [...]

Learn 2016

Christmas is over and New Years is on its way. At this part of the year, it is common for people to start thinking about what is next, what their resolution will be, and if they can keep it. But for me, this is the part of the year when I become reflective. Before I can move on to what is next, I must mentally go through the ups and downs of this past year. Call me nostalgic, or overly sentimental (which I am), but every year around this time, I look back. I take a moment—even if it’s brief—to [...]

Love 2016

Christmas is done. All the hype, excitement, and planning hit its pinnacle yesterday, and now things are quiet. Unless you are with extended family or among those who go back out to the stores the day after Christmas, there is no where you need to be. You are in that beautiful lull before New Years, when everything shall begin again. In light of this wonderful time of year, and in case you are looking for something to do, I thought I would share some entertaining things that I loved in 2016. Perhaps, you are still in your PJ’s, your hands [...]

Lead a Wonderful Life

Every family has their traditions over the Holidays. Growing up, Christmas Eve became the time my immediate family celebrated ours. It usually involved making a bunch of fun snacks that we would eat instead of dinner. Then we’d open presents, and after, watch a Christmas movie while eating a Friendly’s ice cream roll. One year, my dad introduced us to the 1946 movie, “It’s a Wonderful Life.” Though I was young and not used to watching things in black and white, I liked it. And it continues to be a movie that I watch almost yearly. However, as I get [...]

Waiting…With Expectation

Do you remember that feeling you got as a kid, on Christmas Eve? Trying to go to sleep, knowing that when you woke up, there would be presents under the tree? When I think about the anxious excitement that used to surge through me, I can almost feel it in my chest. That feeling of joyous expectation is hard to forget. The thing is, as children, we felt it a lot more. Birthdays, 4th of July  Fireworks, parties, or field trips, all fueled our childhood sense of wonder. And Christmas was the excitement of all of those things, rolled into [...]

Love Learn Lead December 15, 2016

The Christmas Season is in full swing. For many of us our tree is up and our shopping is—at least started. This year, for me, I feel like my goal is to be present in each moment and not let it fly by like it has so many times before. For today’s Love Learn Lead, I share a few reflections about Christmas, as well as my favorite Cookie recipe. Enjoy and may peace find you this season! Love As I have shared before, baking is one of my favorite things to do. But since going gluten free and mostly paleo [...]

Favorite Reads 2016

If I had to pick out my favorite place to go, besides a coffee shop, it would probably be a bookstore. God must love me a lot because I have had jobs working in both. My love of coffee and books is something that I will probably carry with me to heaven. Comfort to me is a warm mug in one hand, and a good piece of writing in the other. About the only thing better than reading a good book, is sharing it with a friend. For this reason, and because I know you are either trying to come [...]

Stuck on Replay

Christmas of my ninth grade year, my best friend gave me a VHS copy of the movie Little Women (with Winona Ryder and Susan Sarandon). Being a reader and an aspiring writer, it easily became one of my favorite movies. I watched it over and over. Eventually though, I got sick of the “bad” parts in the story—Amy being a brat, Jo denying Laurie, Beth getting sick, etc., so I began to fast forward past them. In a sitting, I would go through the whole movie, only viewing the good parts. I watched Jo and Laurie dancing outside the ballroom, [...]

Learn: How Not To Be a Scrooge This Season

There are years when we start listening to Christmas carols in October. There are times when we are so excited about the Holidays that our gift shopping is done by the first of December. But then there are years when we feel like we have to drag ourselves to our closest friend’s Christmas parties, gift shopping is painful, and we wish we could skip to January. If you find yourself in the latter category this season, this post is for you. As someone who has had enough hard Christmases to know how easy is it is to fall into the [...]
