June is already on its way out, but thankfully, we still have a lot of summer left! This week, we are focusing on the importance of having fun and making it a part of our life. On Monday, I shared that having fun can be hard for some of us (myself, included). I also shared some ways that help me lighten up where I need to. Today, we continue talking about fun, and I am thankful you are joining us. I hope wherever you are reading this today, you are finding pockets in your life where you are able to [...]

Don’t Forget to Have Fun!

It is officially summer. We will have days at the beach or the pool. Trips to go hiking or explore new places. Time spent with friends or extended family—cooking out or sitting around a fire. And even possibly, a vacation to some place lovely. It is the time of year where everything is supposed to slow down. The hustle of winter and spring is brought down a few notches, and we can actually have— Fun. The only problem with this is that for some of us, having fun is a struggle. Not all of us can flip the switch from [...]

Love Learn Lead June 22, 2017

A few weeks ago, my husband was given the opportunity to work remotely for a week, so that in his off hours he could work on his photography. Off to Maine we went (the perks of being a writer—I can go too!), for a week of work and adventure. When we weren’t hovered over our laptops—Tony in the kitchen of our rental, and me at the cafe down the street— we were climbing the rocky coastline of Acadia National park, breathing in the fresh salty air of the ocean, and quickly hiking up the North Bubble, for a sunset shot. [...]

How To Make Things Work

I don’t know about you, but there is this desire within me for things to work. If I plug in a light and flip on the switch, I want the light to turn on. If I turn on my computer, and open up an application or internet browser, I want to it to run smoothly. And when we bought our car, I put the key in the ignition and expected it to turn on. I think we can all agree: The world is better when things work.  But last week, I flipped the switch in our living room and a [...]

Love Learn Lead June 15, 2017

Though we have six more days before it is officially summer, I would say that we have made it. The schools are out here, and the weather is warming up, preparing us for all the good things that are in store. This month on the blog is all about making the most of our summer—while not forgetting about the bigger picture of our lives. Today, we continue along the same theme. Happy summer! Love It is strawberry season here in Pennsylvania, and as I shared Monday, my husband and I love going strawberry picking. But, making strawberry shortcake is a [...]

Strawberry Fields

A few weeks ago, on a Saturday, Tony and I got up early. We got dressed, put on our “don’t mind if they get muddy” shoes, and headed out to our favorite strawberry farm. The day before, they unexpectedly announced that they would be opening for a short time that weekend for the first picking. We love strawberries—especially freshly picked ones. So we weren’t going to pass up an opportunity to pick them earlier than we expected. As we drove up the dirt road leading to the farm, we wondered how many people would already be picking when we’d arrive. [...]

Summer Reading Week P. 2

Growing up, one of my least favorite things about summer was our required reading list for school. I will never forget slowly plodding through Huckleberry Finn or putting off reading The Grapes of Wrath until the end of the summer and thinking I would never finish in time. It always felt like an awful joke to have homework when there was no school. But looking back I don’t think it was the reading that was the problem. Instead, I think it was that I didn’t like being told what to read—which makes summer reading as an adult that much better. [...]

Summer Reading Week, P. 1

We have made it to June—the month where summer officially begins. Which means, if you are a reader like me, you are already thinking about the books you want to read—at the beach, by the pool, or even just sitting in the sun somewhere. Tis (almost) the season to soak up some vitamin D and make a dent in our reading lists. But, it is also possible that we’ve been so busy that we haven’t even had time to create a reading list, and we need some good recommendations. That is why this week is Summer Reading Week. Today and [...]

Learn: How I Survived the Death of a Dream

When a dream dies, we can feel like failures. In some situations, there is a sting of rejection that is paralyzing. Add all of this to our broken hearts, and it can feel as if the world is ending. Only, it isn’t. And though everything seems to be screaming to us otherwise, our lives aren’t ending either. We must keep going in the midst of sometimes, unimaginable pain. We need to figure out a way to keep on living that involves more than binging on Netflix and eating carbs—but how? A little over five years ago, one of my dreams [...]

Between Me And You

I was just waking up. I had fallen a sleep as my husband drove us out of Connemara National Park, just north of Galway, Ireland. We now were on a narrow road, shadowed by leafy green trees. My husband had his music playing (I say his because I hadn’t heard of the artist before), and when he saw I was up he asked me if I was feeling better. I had felt a little car sick earlier. I groggily told him that I thought I was better, and then this song came on. It was what I now know as [...]
