A couple of weeks ago, I sat on my couch with my closest friend. With mugs of tea and coffee in our hands, she asked me about my writing. As January was rather busy and hard, I shared I didn’t know what I’d write about on the blog this month. Then offhandedly, I said:
“Probably something about relationships as it is February.” Then I added, “But that feels so cliche.”
As this is the month of Valentine’s Day, it is kind of the “month of love.” Yet joining the chorus of other bloggers and online magazines sharing tips on how to find or keep love, feels redundant. Or as I said, cliche.
So a few days later, I set about brainstorming what we’d talk about in this space, this month. I looked back to see what posts have resonated most with you (at least according to google analytics). I looked at the news headlines, and surfed our socials.
I thought about how the Impeachment and the loss of Kobe Bryant is filling our news feeds and weighing on our hearts. About how the latter is bringing people together, while the former is further proof our country is more divided than ever. Simultaneously, we’ve corporately grieved the loss of a basketball star and his daughter, while taking opposite stands on how this impeachment should go. A heaviness weighs on all of us.
We’re in a hard, tension-filled time in history. One in which it feels like we’re headed down a path and there is no way back. But as I thought about all of this, a solution did begin to come into view. A cure that brought me full circle:
Relationships and Love
They are truly the foundation of a good and peaceful country and world. They are what enables us to compromise and work together. They are what makes for happy homes. And when things are good at home, we all bring our best selves into the world.
When things are good at home, we all bring our best selves into the world.
So though talking about Love in February is cliche, this month I’m going to do it. But I am going to talk about more than just our romantic attachments. I am going to talk about our family members, friends, and neighbors. I am going to talk about love when it’s hard, not just when it’s new and exciting. And hopefully, I’ll be able to encourage us to take steps toward one another, rather than allowing the distance between us to grow.
Please join me this month—here and on the socials—for what our world needs now.

Love “When things are good at home, we all being our best selves into the world.” I couldnt agree more. It nearly sums up the why behind my writing.
I’m planning to share your quote in my email newsletter.
