“If I do not feel a sense of joy in God’s creation, if I forget to offer the world back to God with thankfulness, I have advanced very little…I have not yet learnt to be truly human. For it is only through thanksgiving that I can become myself.”
― Kallistos Ware, The Orthodox Way
Every now and then, on Thanksgiving, I find myself eating at a table with people I love, when all of a sudden the host asks us to go around and share what we’re thankful for. Often, other than the usual yet true response—“my family”—my mind goes blank. On any other day—if given a few minutes—I could come up with a very long list. But when a bunch of faces are staring back at you from around a table, it’s not so easy.
Whether it is a self-imposed pressure to be original or weirdly having everyone’s attention at once, I get thrown off. However, I have found an easy way to begin coming up with an answer, is by asking,
“What do I love?”
Because the people and things we love, are those we are most thankful for. So, today I want to share a few things and people I love, in hopes of helping you come up with a few of your own—in case you find yourself asked, “What are you thankful for today?” Here’s my abridged list:
Tony
my family
my friends
coffee
maple syrup
books
wine
glutenfree pasta
the ocean
And, you! Thank you for reading my blog!
Happy Thanksgiving! I pray that wherever you are, you are able to see goodness. That today, you find warmth in those around you, and joy surprises you in big and small ways.
Blessings!
